Morning all

Some action on Saturday night. Two suspects were apprehended by Aqua and SAPS in the area for jumping walls. I await SAPS advice and whether they can link these suspects to other problems in the area.
Despite increased visibility we still have folk that want to take us on!

Please check on your subs. If you have a membership board up - are you a paying member?
We need your financial support as we need to do a lot in the area to make it neater and safer - for you!

Visit our web site to see what is going to take place in the old caravan park.

We fixed the wall along Hendrik Potgieter on Saturday as it was being used by the criminal element. By Saturday night the wall was already broken! We will open a criminal case against those responsible if caught.

Patrol roster is growing, please get onto the roster so we can share the load.

Street lights should all have been fixed.

5 June - clean up and braai, thank you to those that have volunteered to help but we need lots more folk.

Think all for now

Watch for newsletter and more details in your post box.

Stay safe

John

6th May 2010

Hi all

Quick feed back from last nights meeting. Thank you to all those that attended.

Area has been quiet over the weekends since the patrols have been out in force. I only know of one attempt at a burglary along Constantia Drive in the week, late afternoon.

Patrols will continue and the roster is growing. Please contact Rowan if you want to get involved. Patrol meeting on Saturday at 13h00 at 12 Kroton Rd around patrolling etc. Please also come along to find out more and join up.

Team established to look after the area i.e. cleaning, gardening etc, more volunteers needed. Contact me for now.

Street co-coordinators needed - at least one per street.

Clean up and area braai on 5 June - who can help with this? Especially the braai.

Lastly, please check your subs and a GREAT big thank you to all those that have made donations in lieu of fund raising. Without you we would not be as successful as we are.

Stay safe

28th April 2010

Hi all

Seems a quiet weekend after the re-start of the green light patrols. Thank you to all those that patrolled as the weather was not pleasant. Patrols will be formalised as this weekend was a last minute thing but seems to have had the desired affect.
Please return patrol equipment.

Have you signed up yet to help?

Rubbish will be collected today, I had a chat with Pikitup.

Think all for now but lots more to follow

John

23rd April 2010

Green light patrols start from tonight and will continue right through the "long" weekend. Lets see if we can put a stop to the nonsense in the area.

Let us not have an incident that has been reported on this morning - house robbery where a baby was beaten.

Do you want to help - we are asking for two hours of your time? There is still time to get involved

Email Rowan with your details.

A great big thank you to those that have started helping us out with finances and also to those that will probably be braving the cold over the next few days. We will make CKN a safe place to live.

21st April 2010

Hi all

A big thank you to the many that joined as at the meeting last night and for the great input. It was also good to see a lot of new faces.

On leaving for the meeting I got a call from a resident in Acanthus Street to advise they had lost a car during Friday night from behind locked gates. So another car and again a Friday night. Our problems will not cease ...

BUT

Actions from last night.

This weekend will see the return of our resident patrols, starts Friday night and for the weekend will be add hoc until we set a date for a full anti crime weekend. We need patrollers so please contact Brian Brian or Rowan with your details and time you are prepared to patrol. We will have new green lights for Friday night. All we ask is one and maybe two hours of your time. We will patrol the nights only and as it will probably be a long weekend for many, lets push for Monday and Tuesday night as well.
Patrol procedures etc to follow.

Fund raising - recommendation is to ask for donations/extra small amount from each house rather than do a fundraiser. We need green lights/patrol boards and we will tackle the entrance at Albert it looks shocking. Lets see if we can raise between R5000 and R10 000. A large donation has already been received.
Equates to R30 per house, I am sure we can do it.

Also now needed-
park/area maintenance team - we already have some folk but they need help
more folk to assist with the patrol co-ordination - this grew from 1 to 4 last night!
street helpers - we now have a street co-ordinator

Concern raised was we do not know our neigbours, make it a start to get to know them and if they are not a CKN member you know what to do! Please make two copies of this and pop it in your neigbours post box.

Please diarise 5 June for a CKN clean up and braai!

Full set of minutes to follow but lets get things rolling now, increase our visibility and make the area safe again.

Sorry if a bit long but hope I covered everything, anything missing please let me know. Also any other comments welcome.

Next meeting 4 May, please attend.

Aqua Garden service have offered to remove your rubbish - R25 per bin and R4 per bag, call Nick 083 627 1736.

19th April 2010

Hi all

A new week sees CKN having had more problems. Gate motor stolen in Worsboon Street during Friday night, yes Friday again! So incidents continue.

Please attend meeting tomorrow night at 48 Bamboes at 19h30 as we seek to stop the many problems of late.

John

15th April

Hi all

Burglary in Constantia Drive yesterday. Some small items taken.

We have set up a new section on the website for lost animals, animals needing homes, domestic wanted etc
Please make use of this section for all the above.

Has anyone got any ideas around some fundraising? Whilst we have money in the bank we need to do some fund raising as amongst other things we need to hold an anti crime weekend and need patrol equipment eg all new green lights. Aqua also needs a green light - many folk are complaining about not seeing the car at night. We are keeping at least three months reserves in the bank to cover the 24 hr car. We have just closed the books for the last financial year and ended with a profit of just over R1000 - so we sail close to the wind.

We will not be raising subs - still only R100 pm - but definately have room for new members - are you a member?

We also want to upgrade our entrance at Albert - any gardeners?

(Any sponsors out there?)

We would like to inform you that 4 units were burgled at about 04h00 this morning at Fairview Mews. Thanks to Honeydew police that were there to take statements from the owners. They took articles, wallets, etc in a car, Clothing off the clothing lines, road bicycle from a locked garage and damaged a trellidor to get access into a unit.

Now things are getting out of hand.

Meeting Tuesday night at 19h30 at 48 Bamboes - please attend.

Important note to CKN – 4 April 2010

Over the past few weeks we have experienced a number of crime related issues, the majority being during the course of a
Friday night. Cars have been stolen along with gate motors.
The last incident involved a resident who was hijacked on the corners of Albert and Hendrik Potgieter. He was driven around for 2 hours before being released. Whilst not strictly in CKN, it was too close to home.

So my question to you is – do we do something about these problems or do we sit back and see whose next?

We will be organizing an anti crime weekend, will you get involved?

The AGM is also being planned, will you attend?

Finally, are you on my email distribution list for the area?
You need to know what is going and that mail might just save a life. Email chairman@ckn.org.za

Delivery of attached newsletter delayed due to this important note.
